The Importance of Good Closing Sentences
"Thanks!" is better than "Thanks." Why? The exclamation point. It denotes excitement and we always want to communicate to our clients that we are excited to have their business. "Thanks" with no exclamation could mean "Thanks, you've given me more work to do!" which is an attitude that should never be expressed to a client.
Also, vary your closing every now and then. How many of us have worked with a coworker who ended every email with "We greatly appreciate your business." There's nothing wrong with that statement, however, when you see it on every email, it gets a little old...actually, a lot old! "So, is 11:30 good to meet for lunch?" "Yes, and we greatly appreciate your business" -- You can see how that closing statement really doesn't apply to this conversation.
There are times that I say "Thanks" and times that I say "Much appreciated!," "Hope your day is going well," etc. Do what feels right to you, matches your personality but most importantly, matches the situation.
In addition, if a client tells you "Thanks!" feel free to tell them "You're welcome"...you'll probably get more "Thanks" if you do!
Have a Platinum Day!
